3 Quick and Easy Mountain Getaways Near Denver

Feel like getting away from it all, but don’t want to have to travel too far? One of the great things about Colorado is that there are so many amazing mountain destinations within a short drive of popular transportation hubs. Here are three easy mountain getaways near Denver that you can reach in under two hours.

3 Quick and Easy Mountain Getaways Near Denver

1. Loveland Ski Area

The closest ski mountain to Denver, Loveland Ski Area is just an hour down the I-70 corridor. It’s a locals’ skiing favorite that makes for a great winter getaway if you want to escape the crowds at the big resorts in Summit County. The downside, however, is that it is not open during the summer. Fortunately, there are warm-weather mountain getaways near Loveland Ski Area. Visit Idaho Springs or Georgetown to spend some time in authentic Colorado mining towns, which are surrounded by incredible scenery and full of charm. Stay here to hike St. Mary’s Glacier, drink a Colorado brew at TommyKnocker’s, or book a white water rafting trip to sail down the Colorado River.

2. Winter Park

Drive a short hour and twenty minutes outside of Denver to reach Winter Park. It’s the oldest continually operating ski resort in Colorado and there is something for Destinations of every ability level at its seven territories. Visit during the winter for some of Colorado’s favorite skiing, or go during the summer to enjoy everything the mountains have to offer. Winter Park is close to Rocky Mountain National Park, where you can see wildlife, camp above 10,000 feet for magical star displays, and hike any number of the “fourteeners” – Colorado’s cluster of its tallest peaks.

3. Breckenridge

Only an hour and a half down I-70 from Denver, you’ll find the charming town of Breckenridge. It’s made a name for itself as a top getaway for both winter and summer among outdoor enthusiasts. During the summer, it’s a magnet for climbers, hikers, and fly fishers. For something a little more adventurous, there’s plenty of white water rafting opportunities in the valley and miles of mountain biking trails to explore. If you’re not much of an adrenaline junkie, you might enjoy Breck’s flourishing music and arts scene.
