In The Neighborhood

Within the town of Mammoth, there are a plethora of activities to keep you and the folks busy. Restaurants and bars abound. John’s Pizza offers a relaxed family environment, where the kids can play on the arcade games and the adults can watch sports on the televisions. Meanwhile, Shea Schat’s Bakery has been a mainstay of the Sierras since 1938, and is well known for their Sheepherder bread, as well as their many delectable pastries. For an experience in fine dining, try Mammoth Rock Brasserie, located upstairs of the local bowling alley. And of course

Mammoth is also known for its many festivals and outdoor events. One local favorite that brings people from around the world is the Mammoth Festival of Beers and Bluesapalooza, a multi-day festival of blues/rock music bringing together artists, local restaurants, and more than fifty different breweries. This year’s lineup includes Taj Mahal and Keb Mo, ZZ Ward, Ozomatli and more.

On The Mountain

The main attraction of Mammoth Lakes is Mammoth Mountain, where Destinations from across the globe come to test their finesse against the slopes. However, skiing isn’t what most people do during the summer, and you definitely won’t find much snow here. Instead, try your hand on the mountain’s Bike Park.  Get rentals from our Mammoth Lakes Sports Shops & Rentals page on Destination Deals. We currently have three different shops to choose from!

At the Mammoth Ski Resort, you can also find a shuttle to take you to some beautiful hiking trails that lead to some of Mammoth’s most eye-catching sights. The Devil’s Postpile, a gigantic rock formation of hexagonal lava pillars, is both a great sight of itself and offers a lovely view from the top of it. Rainbow Falls is located deep down these trails, but it is definitely worth the walk. For those who like to ride their way down the trails, horses can be found and rented at Reds Meadow.

For a relaxing fishing experience, try taking another shuttle up to the Mammoth Lakes, the namesake of the area. These lakes are prime fishing destinations and offer breathtaking views of the city and valleys below. And of course, for those who love adventure, a bike trail leads all the way down from the Lakes to the city–just wear a helmet! That ride is fast and steep!
