Gondolas, cable cars, aerial trams – whatever you wish to call them, they sure are useful for getting to the top of the mountain for skiing. They have more value than just as another type of ski lift though, in the fact that the views from their sky-scraping windows are simply unbeatable. We’ve highlighted a handful of our favorites below, which we’ve chosen because something about each one makes it extra fun, unique and exciting, and all the more worthy of your next summer in the mountains.

Royal Gorge Bridge and Park, Colorado
We’ll start off on a high note, and we mean really high. The jaw-dropping gondola ride over plunging Royal Gorge Canyon and the Arkansas River near Colorado Springs is not for the faint of heart, but is definitely the most dramatic and unbelievable journey on our list.

Ober Gatlinburg, Tennessee
See why the Smoky Mountains were given their name, from the heights of this aerial sightseeing tramway in Gatlinburg. Relax on board to the sights of gentle green summits, often which are draped in a light fog. The roomy passenger cabins run between town and not only a mountain resort, but an amusement park as well.

Montmorency Falls Park, Quebec
Quebec City has it’s very own enviable cable car, with a water wonderland going on just below it. Awe at Montmorency Falls as they crash into the Montmorency River that curves through lush parkland all around it. Maybe you’ll get lucky and spot a smiling rainbow in the mist as you pass overhead.

Stowe Gondola, Vermont
From this ride in Stowe, Vermont, the views of Mount Mansfield and the corresponding state forest are the best in the area, but a seasonal secret is the real treat here. Go in autumn to witness New England’s annual explosion of vivid fall colors, from your prime seat up above the trees!

Heavenly, California
Last but undoubtedly not least, we promised you heavenly and Heavenly you’ll get! For the most divine overlook on Lake Tahoe, this super scenic ride is the only way to go.
