1.) Chautauqua
Located in Boulder, this National Park combines nature, lodging, music, theater, movies, and culture into one location. 2.) Booth Falls
Visitors can take in this mountainous area by exploring the six-mile hiking trails, stop by Booth Lake, take pictures of the picturesque views, or gasp at the intriguing waterfalls. Most of the trail goes uphill and can be very rocky. Dogs are allowed in the park, but they must be on-leash.

3.) Bishop’s Castle

For more than sixty years, Jim Bishop has been constructing this castle out of limestone and iron as a monumental statue. Visitors can see the ballroom, soaring towers, bridges, and a fire-breathing dragon. Admission is always free.

4.) Wheeler Geologic Area
What makes this park unique are the sandstone spires that were created by volcanic explosions millions of years ago and has the tendency to like coral on a seabed. Located in the Rio Grande National Forest, this site is accessible by a seven-mile hike. Walking or horseback is recommended, but the area can be reached by four-wheeling.

5.) Space Foundation Discovery Center
Ever wonder what it was like in space? This center is great for kids to investigate and have some fun. Plus there are endless possibilities on what you can do here and tons of events happening throughout the year. Feature exhibits include: MAKE IT to Mars, explore the science of motion, learn about the stars on Star Days, view the space artifacts in the El Pomar space gallery, and feel what it’s like to be in space in the space simulation lab.

6.) Dunford Castle
Need to visit more castles? This castle was built-in 1941 as a residence that overlooks the clear waters of Bear Creek and is perfect for weddings. The property also features: waterfalls, 1500 feet of trout ponds, a miniature electric train that runs around the property, and stunning views of the creek and the surrounding area.

7.) Stanley Hotel
Why not check into a haunted hotel that was the inspiration for the movie, The Shining. The hotel opened in 1909 as a way for people to escape city life and enjoy the outdoors in beautiful Estes Park, Colorado. It has been reported that Stephen King stayed in room 217. Guests can watch the movie 24/7 or try their hand at scoping out the spirits.
