Summer Fun in Vermont
Vermont’s mountains offer an incredible array of activities and experiences, making it the perfect destination for a summer getaway. Here's what you don't want to miss.
Mystic Country takes up the whole eastern part of the state. The southern section of Mystic Country lies on Mystic River for which the area is named. If you are near the Mystic River, you must check out the Mystic Seaport, which is a maritime museum. This museum is home to over 500 ships, including the Charles W. Morgan. This ship is a wood whaleship that is the last of its kind in the world.
Besides the ships, the museum also features a seafaring village and a preservation shipyard. If the weather is too bad, head inside the Mystic Aquarium, and say hello to a beluga whale. Or, take a virtual wild ride in the XD Motion Theater. There’s more to Mystic Country than just the areas around the river. If you are a gambling man or woman, the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket provides you with plenty of games of chance. Take in a Vegas-style show, or eat your heart out at one of the many restaurants.
With your food, you may like some spirits. The Willimantic Brewing Company in Willimantic brews its own craft beers on site. Watch the brew-making in progress from the restaurant dining room. Perhaps, however, you are more of a wine person. Then sample some reds and whites at the Jonathan Edwards Winery in North Stonington, the Sharpe Hill Vineyard in Pomfret, or the Taylor Brooke Winery in Woodstock.
If you have the kids with you, head to the Dinosaur Place at Nature’s Art in Montville. This area encompasses 50 acres of animatronic dinosaurs, including the tallest dinosaur in the world the Brachiosaurus. After you stroll around the 1 mile of trails, head indoors, and open up a geode. Or, become a modern day minor as you search for gold in Thunder Creek, or hunt for buried dinosaur bones.
Come on and grab the family and head to this great vacation area. You’ll be glad you did, but happier that you saved money using one of our many Connecticut vacation coupons.
