The Litchfield Hills is the place to be all year round. This area of Connecticut is located in the far western part of the state. It includes the major cities of Bristol, Waterbury, Kent, Litchfield and Danbury.

Things to Do

The attractions in Litchfield Hills range from the intellectual to the outdoorsy to the downright tipsy. This section of Connecticut has an amazing number of museums, including the Keeler Tavern Museum, which dates back to the 1700’s.

View the history of the carousel at the New England Carousel Museum. Or, head back to the heady days of the 1930s, and take in the amazing Art Deco architecture of the Warner Theater. If you collected trains as a child, view the real ones at the Danbury Railway Museum. Really keep track of time at the Timex Museum, and see how these watches have evolved throughout the ages.

Take a ride on the wild side—or just a horse—at Lee’s Riding Stable. Stroll through the historic Bulls Bridge that crosses over the Housatonic River. People still use this bridge to cross over to New York State. Stand on one of three observation decks, and take in Kent Falls in Kent State Park. Or, simply fish from the shoreline, or take in some people watching. If you taste for activities leans more towards sipping some fermented grapes, head to one of the many wineries in the area. These include the DiGrazia Vineyard and Winery and Haight-Brown Vineyard. If you’re here in the fall, indulge in a weekend of wine at the annual New England Vineyard Extravaganza Weekend.
